View from the Ridge
I leaned forward, testing how my felt feet gripped the soft upholstery. The lower cushion felt safe, but my gaze kept drifting toward the high curve of the sofa's backrest. A thick knit throw blanket was draped along the corner, its chunky yarn forming a gentle slope of woven ridges. Moving slowly, I planted one foot after another into the woolen folds, letting each step settle before taking the next. At the summit, the fabric leveled out. The entire room opened up beneath me. I tucked my wings close and sat quietly, watching dust motes drift across the wide floorboards.
