Low Hum Rhythm

The quiet inside the room had a beat to it tonight. I traced the sound over the polished wood floor until my feet found the vibration right beside the home audio subwoofer. Resting one plastic hand flat against the matte mesh, I felt the gentle, cyclical drone of the standby hum. It was steady, smooth, like a muted bassline waiting for a track to kick in. I sat down right there with my back against the dark corner, tapping my rigid sneaker soles to match its slow tempo.
