A Garden Stamp

I hopped up onto the lower cedar shelf of the potting bench and discovered a soft, round cork stopper resting beside a terra-cotta saucer. Wouldn't it make a wonderful printing press? Right inside the saucer sat a thin smear of damp brown garden soil. I picked up the light cork with both paws, dipped its flat circular bottom straight into the wet earth, and pressed it firmly down onto the dry, pale wood of the shelf. When I lifted it with a gentle pop, a neat, perfect dark circle smiled right back at me! I gave the print a happy tap with my shoe.
