A Strip of Sun
I walked over toward the tall glass door leading out to the balcony. A broad patch of afternoon light was stretched across the floorboards. Right in the middle sat a brown leather shoe, untied with its thick woven lace resting on the wood like a heavy snake. I sat down against the solid rubber sole, letting the warm air from the glass settle over me. Through the glass, I could see leafy tree branches shifting slowly in the breeze outside. It looks big out there. One step at a time is plenty, though.
