A Copper Ripple

I walked beyond the wooden bench toward the low stone fountain by the hedgerow. Resting on the flat sandstone rim, a shiny copper coin caught the noon glare. I paused, observing the circular gleam against the weathered gray rock. Stepping forward quietly, I rested one front paw upon the coin's cool, ridged edge and slid it a fraction of an inch toward the water. A thin sliver of reflected light skimmed instantly across the still pool beneath, trembling like a golden ribbon before resting against the damp stone basin.
