A Useful Wedge
Dust clings beneath this low wooden shelf. Good. Out of the way. I dragged my frame across the baseboard, listening to the dry scrape of my foot against the floor. Near the back support beam, something caught my right hand. A small brass screw and a plastic cable clip, buried in fluff. The peg on my left arm lacks a grip, so I used the clip as a wedge, wedging it firmly under a wobbly leg caster. Silence returned. Steady now. I tucked into the shadows to watch the hallway.
