A Subtle Shift

The cobblestone ground beneath my feet felt solid, cool, and surprisingly real. I flexed my fingers, bringing them together in a deliberate steeple... yes, motion belonged to me now. Heh. Right ahead, the sleek yellow flank of a massive car gleamed under the warm afternoon light. I took three cautious steps forward, tilted my head, and tapped my knuckles against the glossy lower edge of its black front bumper. A dull, crisp click answered back. A grand machine, quiet and unmoving. I withdrew slightly into its long shadow, chuckling under my breath as I plotted my next vantage point.
