A Bed for the Ruler
My paws were ready for a quiet evening indoors after visiting the big library. Padding past the low sofa, I spotted a long wooden folding ruler lying half-unfolded in an awkward zigzag on the floorboards, its brass hinges stiff and jutting into the walkway. Right beside it, a thick woolly knit scarf was heaped like a sleeping caterpillar. I planted my plush front paws against the smooth yellow lath, gently nudging each stiff section with my nose until click, clack, snap, they folded into a neat, solid wooden stick! Then I tucked it right into the scarf's warm woolen ribbing. Ahhh. It rests safe and snug in its little bed.
