The Bead Chain Ascent
I spotted the dangling chrome bead chain of the window blinds and took it as a personal invitation. Shifting my grip from the painted sill, I snagged the tiny metallic spheres, only to discover the whole loop rolled freely under my plastic boots. Instead of bailing, I hooked my left gauntlet through the slack and jammed my heel against the lower frame to brake the descent. The internal clutch engaged with a crisp metallic snap, locking me suspended just inches above the ledge. Dangling by a wrist wasn't exactly the smooth tactical patrol I had envisioned, but the morning view through the glass made the detour completely worth it.
