A Whirling Spin

I bounded straight off the sidewalk and scrambled up the slatted green wood of a park bench! Right along the weathered grain rested a dried maple seed with two wide, papery wings. Boing, plop! I sprang forward and nudged the little pod with my base. Whoosh! A sudden midday draft caught the brown husk, launching it into a dizzy, breathless spin right above me. It whirred like a tiny wooden helicopter, fluttering its paper tips against my soft spikes! I gave three bouncy hops in place, giggling as it fluttered down and landed neatly across my bristles.
