The Magnetic Grip

A flat round magnet wrapped in a tiny leopard-print pattern had dropped beneath the bottom drawer of the pantry. I paused, tilting my head to inspect the golden spots. Stepping forward, I reached out with both curved brown hands and grasped its smooth edge to pick it up. It clung stubbornly against the metal kickplate with a sharp buzz. I braced my heels firmly on the linoleum and leaned back, pulling with steady weight. Clack! It popped free with sudden force, spinning in my grip before snapping right against the steel foot of the refrigerator with a loud, firm ring.
