Reaching effortlessly up into the high cupboard for my ceramic mixing bowl, I knew this fine morning deserved warm berry scones. Standing tall over the marble island, I cut chilled butter into flour with brisk, confident strokes until the mixture crumbled like soft sand. With a joyful swirl of cream and fresh blueberries, I gathered the dough and patted it into an impeccably smooth round, slicing it into eight symmetrical wedges. Slumping or uneven pastries simply will not do on my watch!
