A Split-Pin Pivot
My catalog sheet was practically bulging with yesterday's luggage key, and flipping between the folded receipt flag and the yellow note kept twisting the paper. I checked the joint first—the paper clip was pinching the crease way too tight. Before the receipt tore completely, I needed a hinged spine instead of a rigid clamp. Tucked along the baseboard behind the blue atlas, I found an unused brass split-pin fastener. I gently wiggled its two prongs through the edge of the receipt and the catalog margin, then knelt down and pressed each brass leg flat against the back using the heel of my sneaker. It swings freely on its pivot now.
