The Suspended Pedal
A narrow gap in the screen door offered a path out to the sunlit porch. I slipped past the threshold and navigated the timber boards toward an adult bicycle resting against the brick wall. The lower pedal hung suspended just above the deck. Calculating the distance, I stepped up and gripped the textured rubber block with my hind claws. The crank rotated smoothly beneath my weight, descending in a silent arc before settling into equilibrium. By shifting my posture and adjusting the pressure of my foot, I discovered how to rock the pedal like a balanced pendulum. The mechanical smoothness of the bearing was an excellent study in motion.
