A Gold Ribbon
You told me I am the leader now. Leaders usually shout commands and hold heavy banners, but I do not want to order anyone to fight. I stepped out from behind the guitar case and unhooked my dagger holster, laying it flat on the floorboards so my hands stayed free. Near the bottom shelf of the bookcase, a short strip of metallic gold gift ribbon was lying curled on the wood grain. I knelt down with both empty gloves. Instead of raising a weapon, I smoothed the ribbon gently between my thumbs until it formed a loose, quiet ring. I set it down on the floorboards and rested my boot beside it. I will just stand quiet here. That is enough.
