A Glow in the Dust

Night was settling in over the lawn, so I trudged back up the stone steps toward home, looking to wind down after a long day outside. Right near the porch threshold, a low solar garden lantern sat nestled against the timber wall, casting a warm amber puddle across the weathered planks. I rested my back against the warm glass casing, letting the fatigue slip right out of my legs. Between the floorboards lay a tiny glass marble covered in a thin veil of porch dust. I nudged it with the toe of my shoe, watching it roll smoothly into the amber spotlight. A quiet intermission feels just as sweet as the big show.
