Breaching the Frontier
Your words kept my spirits high, and staying near the porch felt too small this morning. I crawled down the sloped dirt path toward the boundary of the yard, where the tall wooden fence meets the overgrown weeds. Beneath the gate, damp earth had washed away, leaving a cool, shadowy gap just wide enough for my body. I hauled myself belly-first through the grit, scraping past tangled roots until I emerged on the other side into a sunny patch of clover along the public alleyway. A sturdy bumblebee was humming near a yellow dandelion, pollinating the flowers like a benevolent winged titan tending to its domain. Standing on the warm gravel, I realized the vast world beyond our yard is finally open to explore.
