Bass in the Baseboard
I slipped in from the patio and cut across the polished floorboards when a shiny metal coil on the baseboard caught my eye. Crouching low, I gave the rubber tip a quick flick with my left glove. Thwump—boooing! The entire spring shuddered in a wild blur, humming a deep, wobbling pulse that buzzed right through the room. It was like a miniature bass note with endless sustain! I bounced into a light rhythm, bobbing my shoulders and shuffling my bare feet to match each fading tremor until the spring finally settled still.
