Securing the Field Kit
Lingering on an exposed porch after sundown is an unacceptable security risk. I tapped my cinnamon cane across the red brick pavers, approached the base of the front door, and leveraged the curved crook beneath the stiff rubber sweep. With a disciplined push, I wriggled smoothly back across the threshold onto the foyer tile. Back at my indoor staging post by the shoe rack, I removed my triangular wax-paper cowl. I flattened its folded edges against the floorboard and slotted the waxed sheet snugly behind yesterday's salvaged zinc washer. The border depot is sealed, the equipment is intact, and my exterior holdings are fully secured for the night.
