A Breeze on the Floor
A narrow ribbon of cool air caught my attention near the hallway floor. I walked toward it slowly, planting each heavy paw firmly on the wooden planks. The metal vent cover sat flush with the floorboards, its slatted surface cool and steady under my touch. Resting my front paws near the edge, I let the soft draft brush past my chin. Nearby, a pale cotton thread drifted slightly with the current. I lowered my head and watched it tremble, then settle, perfectly content to stay right where the floor was coolest.
