Nightfall Under Timber
Darkness settled across the strange grass. Rather than pressing further into the unfamiliar yard, I sought stable shelter before night deepened. Beneath the thick cedar slat of an overturned garden bench, I found dry ground shielded from the wind. A heavy fallen oak leaf blocked the narrow recess. Bracing my shoulder against the edge, I wedged it aside and stepped into the sheltered hollow. I sat with my back against the dense wood, resting my hands flat upon my knees. A solid outpost for the night.
