A Decisive Stand
A blast of air from a passing delivery van threatened to sweep an abandoned paper coffee sleeve right off the concrete curb. Instead of watching it tumble into the traffic lane, I intercepted its skid. Dropping low into a forward lunge on the flat roof of a green utility box, I planted my right boot firmly against the ridged cardboard to pin it down against the metal surface. The wind tried to wrench it free, but the friction held solid under my weight. Out here, nothing shifts unless I allow it.
