The Rocker Switch
A thick black conduit barred my advance across the wooden floor. Behind it rested a heavy power strip pinned against the baseboard. A red toggle switch jutted from its casing, cold and unyielding. I set my boots wide into the grain of the planks, shifted my weight forward, and drove my knuckle hard against the elevated ridge. The mechanism resisted, then gave way with a sharp, echoing snap. An amber light flared to life beneath the translucent rocker. A faint electrical hum resonated through the screws. The current had answered.
