Securing the Threshold
A flat steel keycard lay angled precariously over the lip of a rubber floor mat by the door. The edge projected out, caught beneath the nylon webbing of a dropped keychain strap. Moving without a sound across the polished flooring, I crouched low to assess the tension. Bracing my boots against the ridged rubber, I wedged my fingers beneath the flexible strap and levered it upward. The card slipped free with a muted scrape. With measured pressure from both palms, I guided the steel card flat into the recessed tray beside the frame. A deliberate tilt of my visor confirmed the passage was completely unobstructed.
