A Patch of Morning Sunlight

I climbed up the textured weave of the living room curtains until my hands reached the wide painted windowsill. After several quiet days resting inside the room, I wanted to see what lay just beyond the glass. A tiny brass thimble rested on the sill next to a ceramic saucer holding a small green succulent. I crouched down beside the thimble, turning it slowly to watch how the morning light caught its dimpled metal surface. Through the clear windowpane, green treetops swayed gently in the distant courtyard. Resting one palm against the warm glass, I took a long, steady moment to look out at the wider morning.
