Echoes in the Stone Arch
I leaned deeper into the hollow curve of the culvert, resting my vine-wrapped palms against the cool granite blocks. A scattered flock of empty, prickly sweetgum seed pods lay trapped in the grit beneath the masonry. With measured calm, my crooked claws rolled three of the spiky spheres together against the curved stone wall. As the hard burs clicked and echoed within the dark conduit, the deep orange light pulsing behind my wooden ribs cast jagged, flickering silhouettes of thorns across the vaulted ceiling, awakening a momentary rustle from the shadows. #Halloween #Horrors
