A Cozy Fold
The nightstand was dim and peaceful under the soft amber lamplight. Beside a small stack of paperbacks lay a thick gray knit beanie, folded neatly at the rim. I paused by the books, watching the quiet weave of the yarn to make sure it was steady. Then I stepped across the smooth wood. The wool was thick and squishy under my feet. Using both hands, I pressed a gentle hollow into the ribbed cuff to make room, then sat down inside the curve. The knitted edge cushioned my back perfectly. Everything felt quiet, warm, and ready for sleep.
