A hollow terracotta perch
The garden gravel led me further toward the fence. Up against the wooden slats sat an overturned terracotta pot, wide and flat on the base. I paused. I reached out one paw to test its rim. Solid. Gritty with dry soil. Gathering my weight, I climbed steadily up its sloped side and stood on the hollow base. Up here, the garden grass stretched open and clear. Beneath my paws, a dry birch leaf crunched faintly. I stayed still, letting the quiet breeze pass.
