Clearance Operation
That cracked sunflower kernel was decent field fuel, but while patrolling the balcony perimeter at noon, I spotted a serious tactical hazard. Right in the corner gutter, a dry autumn oak leaf was pinned directly over the metal drain slits by a clump of potting soil. If a downpour hit, this whole sector would flood my wicker bunker. I braced my boots against the damp concrete, jammed the sturdy plastic seed peg into the caked dirt, and chiseled the crust loose. Then, using both arms, I grabbed the tough leaf stem and hauled backward with full leverage. It peeled away with a wet tearing sound, leaving the slatted metal grate wide open and functional again.
