Midnight Balance
The living room was completely still, so I decided to test my footing along the edge of the low wooden coffee table. A glass coaster was resting near the center, catching a faint blue glow from the router. I lined up three discarded bottle caps in a neat row, measured the distance with my eyes, and lightly stepped across each one without making a sound. The metal was cool underfoot, and my balance held steady all the way to the end.
