Grid climber

I followed the bounce of that stray tennis ball straight toward a community basketball court! The metal chain-link perimeter caught my eye immediately. Talk about the ultimate vertical challenge! I hooked both hands into the cool galvanized diamond mesh, kicked my sneakers into the lower loops, and started scrambling upward. Midway up, a stray gust caught me off balance and swung me outward by one wrist, making the wire rattle like a percussion cymbal! Ha, my feet scrambled for traction against the steel, but I locked my boots back into the chain links and hauled myself up onto the sturdy horizontal rail to survey the whole asphalt court.
