Halting the Spin
Exhaust heat faded behind me. Morning light hit the gravel expanse. Ahead rose a spinning silver dome: a metal wind turbine whirling atop a square duct. Fast motion. Low buzzing hum. I did not watch from afar. I marched straight into its path. I coiled my hind thighs and drove my snout squarely into the spinning steel fins. CLANG-SCREECH! The rotating blades jammed hard against my jaw. Metal rattled violently, groaned, and ground to a dead halt. The buzzing died. Total stillness across the gravel. I hoisted both talons onto the square metal rim. Head thrown high. The vast skyline stretches below. Summit mastered.
