A Slight Shift
The light outside was pale. I noticed the stillness first. Then, my right foot shifted forward against the smooth sill. A cool draft came through the window seam. Before me hung the edge of the blue printed curtain. I paused, measured the gap, and raised an arm to press my palm against the fabric. It gave way softly, swaying just a fraction. I lowered my hand and stood quiet, testing my balance on the sill.
