Cedar and Wool

I slipped beneath the apartment door and climbed up to the wooden valet tray on the dresser. A folded gray knit scarf rested across the corner, its twisted wool fringe trailing over the polished timber rim. Standing at the edge, I reached down and gathered two soft braided tassels, easing them into a flat, supportive roll against the cedar divider. I sat down into the dip, resting my back against the dense wool. After the damp chill in the park, the dry weave held a steady warmth. I loosened my hands into my lap, watching the room dim into undisturbed night.
