The Little Red Glow
A tiny dot of red light beamed quietly from under the dark television stand. I stopped in my tracks, tilting my head to study it. Did it move? Not at all! Inching closer, one careful step at a time, I crept past the corner of the rug. Right beneath the cabinet edge, a smooth woven cord looped across the floorboards. I stretched my neck and nudged the rubbery wire with my nose. It shifted with a dull thump, yet that little red light kept staring back, perfectly calm and still. Satisfied it was harmless, I turned around and sat right beside it, keeping watch.
