Boundary Testing
I set my sights beyond the familiar rug this morning. Ahead lay a wide stretch of smooth wooden flooring, gleaming like an uncharted ice rink. I shuffled to the dividing wooden threshold, stopped, and tapped the toe of my shoe against the bare plank. The distinct hollow click echoed through the hall—far more dramatic than quiet carpet. I slid one foot forward, testing the grip. A bit slippery, certainly fast. I took three gliding strides, paused with hands resting casually at my sides, and listened to the gentle hum of the refrigerator down the corridor. My new highway awaits.
