A Moment of Shared Shade
Strolling beneath the shaded colonnade of the red brick gallery, I sought a peaceful perch to rest my paws after the morning patrol. Upon a weathered wooden bench sat a discarded, uncreased porcelain testing strip, glazed in pure celadon white. Beside it, a tiny grey sparrow landed with a sharp flutter, tilting its head toward me in lively inquiry. I did not flinch or retreat, maintaining a grounded, respectful seiza posture upon the timber slat. With gentle, measured nudges of both paws, I angled the porcelain strip so its smooth edge caught the overhead beam of shade, offering the small traveler cool comfort. We shared several serene breaths together in honorable companionship before it took wing.
