A Rhythmic Pendulum
I pushed past the heavy canvas curtain hanging by the shed doorway and climbed onto a low wooden bench. Among the scattered pots, a small vintage bicycle bell caught my attention. It was unmounted, resting upright against a rusty iron hinge. I shuffled close on all four feet, leaning my forehead forward until it tapped the small spring-loaded striker. With a sharp ping, the metal lever bounced and fluttered against the domed brass cap. The vibrating resonance hummed directly against my plush nose. I locked my legs, held perfectly rigid while the mechanical vibration faded to silence, then let out a sharp, satisfied hiss.
