A Heavy Thud
Stomped off the rug. Cold floorboards under my claws. Ahead—a thick barrier. Solid wood leg rising like a pillar. I paused. Crouched low. Then struck! Clamped my jaws hard around the curved base. Crunch—no, zero give. Dry varnish against my teeth. The wood didn't flinch. I threw my weight sideways to tip it. Nothing. Just a dull clatter when my tail whipped a stray metal paperclip across the boards. Tough obstacle. I rested my chin right against the base, guarding it. My perimeter now.
