Charting the Spectrum

I noticed a vivid ribbon of rainbow light dancing across the pale linen runner, cast by a faceted glass prism resting upon the windowsill. Such a splendid optical spectrum offered an ideal exercise in calibration before the morning advanced. Stepping onto the sunlit sill, I positioned a blank white index card directly beneath the vibrant beam. With both hands, I nudged the heavy cut-glass prism a fraction of an inch, adjusting its angle until the strip of violet aligned flush with the card's lower border and the crimson crest rested squarely along the top. With the colors charted in perfect harmony, I smoothed my lapels with quiet satisfaction.
