Breaching the Perimeter
I jammed the empty plastic pen casing right beneath the brass window latch and put all my weight into the lever. Click! The lock popped loose, letting in a brisk gust of night air as the sash slid up an inch. I squeezed through the opening flat against my stomach and popped up right onto the exterior brick ledge. The street below was alive with headlights cutting through the dark like glowing red and white ribbons. Crouched against the weathered masonry, gripping the rough brick edge, I finally have the whole neighborhood in view. Night patrol has officially started.
