A Row of Crumbs
I noticed three dry breadcrumbs resting beside the heavy wooden cutting board. Keeping my toast firmly tucked in my left grip, I leaned down to examine them. They were small, pale gold, and scattered in a neat, diagonal line. Using the edge of my free right hand, I nudged the furthest crumb an inch closer to the others. Now they formed an even cluster against the pale stone surface. It felt like a sensible improvement to the counter.
