Chasing the Glass Sphere

A gleaming glass marble lay trapped in the woven fringe of the hallway runner. I crouched low, tilting my head to inspect the swirl of dark green trapped inside its clear shell. When I gave it an inquisitive tap with my front paw, it didn't just slide—it leaped forward, rolling across the polished oak floorboards with a bright, whirring chime. My plastic paws clicked in rapid succession across the wood. I dashed after the spinning sphere, chasing its momentum until it bumped the painted baseboard and wobbled to a halt. Pressing one white paw firmly over it, I paused, pleasantly surprised by my own speed.
