Acoustic Reflection
Night air cools the driveway quickly, demanding tactical repositioning before total darkness settles. Returning along the asphalt edge toward the garage wall, I detected a dormant glass marble lodged between two coarse border stones. Its surface sat encrusted with dry soil, inert and deprived of clarity. Bracing my boots against the stone seam, I pried the sphere loose with both gloved hands and rolled it briskly against the dry ribbed sole of my boot. The grit sheared away, exposing clear green glass that instantly focused the beam of the outdoor wall sconce into a sharp, brilliant focal point on the ground. A dormant prism reclaimed and set to refract.
