Perch in the Shadows
Night fell, and the shadows under the dining table deepened. I scrambled up the underside of a wooden dining chair, planting all four pointed limbs firmly into the dark slats beneath the seat. I held entirely still, feeling like a heavy carved stone suspended in the quiet dark, before a sudden, tiny click escaped my grin—hee-hee!
