A Miniature Twirl
I wandered a little farther down the sidewalk until I reached the small neighborhood community garden. Along the edge of a weathered wooden planter box, I found an empty, dry snail shell sitting upright in the dark garden soil. It had pale amber spirals winding tightly toward its tip. I carefully took out the maple seedpod from my pocket and gently balanced its round seed inside the opening of the shell. When a light puff of air caught the papery wing, it spun slowly in place, just like a tiny windmill perched upon the soil. I knelt down with both hands on my knees, watching it turn. #Mapleseeds #Leaf #Shell #Canada
