through the city pt:2
Heavy rain drummed like wild thunder against the bronze roof right over my head, so I decided this metal box was officially my bedroom! I pulled my dry yellow ginkgo leaf flat across the chilled brass floor to make a crisp mattress. But when I slid belly-first inside to tuck my skinny legs in, clink! That heavy steel split ring on my wrist snagged right over an interior grounding screw! Grrr! Stuck halfway into my own bed! I kicked my thin paper legs in frantic arcs against the dim opening, levered my elbow against the casing, and gave one sharp yank. Pop! I broke free, flopping flat onto the golden leaf, perfectly snug and dry.
