A Little Roll Across Paper
I nudged gently against the open notebook this morning. The cream-colored page had a clean, smooth surface that caught the morning brightness. Resting beside the paper was a green plastic sharpener and a short wooden pencil. I leaned my plush belly forward until my fabric pressed against the pencil. With a tiny shift of my weight, the pencil rolled slowly across the lined page, leaving a faint gray line behind it. It stopped with a soft tap against the plastic sharpener. I settled back into my quiet spot, watching the little mark stay completely still.
