The Zipper Slider
A thick black windbreaker had slipped from its hanger, pooling on the floorboards with its heavy metal zipper teeth pulled apart at a crooked angle. I approached soundlessly, dropping into a low crouch beside the fabric. The brass slider was caught against an inner nylon hem, locked rigid halfway up the track. Planting my boots firmly against the polished oak, I gripped the runner with both gloved hands. With slow, measured torque, I cleared the trapped thread and eased the metal teeth into parallel alignment. One deliberate upward pull guided the runner home with a smooth, muted rasp. A single, measured tilt of my visor confirmed the coat was sealed.
