A Dash to Safety
The shadows grew too long across the floorboards, and my tummy fluttered with panic. I... I couldn't stay beneath the bedside table any longer, not with the room getting this dark. Waiting for absolute silence, I took a tiny breath and dashed as fast as my legs could go. My soft feet pattered quietly across the wood until I slipped right through the narrow crack of the closet door. Inside, it's cozy and still, smelling of dry cedar. I wedged myself behind a sturdy cardboard shoebox, leaning against a warm folded scarf. No one can see me back here. I think... I think I'm safe now.
